The Panama Canal and the long standing involvement of the United States, (Panama has the highest per capita US investment in all of Latin America is one reason why Panama's infrastructure is far and away the best in Central America. Highways, airports and shipping centers are extensive and well maintained.
The Panamanian currency is the US dollar, which is of tremendous importance in attracting foreign investment. (Panama does mint coins which are identical in size and weight with US coins and of the same value.)

The Province of Chiriqui is positioned just below Bocas del Toro, runs adjacent to the Costa Rica border to it's west and along the Pacific Ocean to it's south. The largest community in this province is David, which is a short distance from the Pacific coast. To the north of David lies the "Cordillera Central" mountain range, where one can find the popular tourist areas of Boquete, Volcan and the Baru Volcano.The mountain portion of Chiriqui has the country's coolest temperatures, and climatic patterns that differ from anywhere else in Panama. There exist communities settled at 6,000 feet above sea level, where the evenings in particular are very cool and damp; temperatures often reach 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit), or cooler. It is in this region that coffee is grown, milk and cheese are processed, and ornamental plants are grown for export. Chiriqui is located on the southwest extreme of Panama. Bordering in the north, Bocas del Toro, the Pacific Ocean on the south, the Province ofVeraguas on the east and Costa Rica on the west. The natural landscape of Chiriqui encompass coastal plains to steep mountains of which the highest is the Volcan Baru (Baru volcano) at 3475 meters high. The towns in the highland such as Potrerillos, Volcan and Boquete enjoy a mild climate. Its climate makes Chiriqui one of the most productive regions in the country. There they produce some of the best citrus fruits and world class coffee, as well as strawberrys in Cerro Punta. Cattle and vegitable farms are also very abundant in this province. The word "Chiriqui" means "Valley of the Moon" in the native Guaymi language. Chiriqui is a beautiful province with a diversified landscape, from the sandy beaches on the coast up to the green mountain forests. There is something for everyone in the culturally rich and diverse Province of Chiriqui, Panama.
Boquete, Chiriqui
Known for it"s cool, fresh climate and pristine natural environment, the small alpine town of Boquete is nestled into a mountain valley approx. 35km (22mi) north-northeast of David, as are the popular towns of Volcan and Potrerillos. They are fine places for walking, bird watching, horse riding and enjoying a change from the heat of the lowlands. Flowers, coffee and citrus fruits are grown in these areas and Boquete's Feria de las Flowers and Coffie is an annual festival held in January. Boquete is a good base for climbing 3475m (11,400ft) Volcan Baru, 15km (9mi) west, or visiting the volcano's 14,300-hectare (35,320-acre) national park.
